Right along Highway 99 is a large sign for "Wine Tasting at Peirano Estate Vineyards." Visitors are treated to a lovely country experience as they wander through the garden to the old green-roofed farmhouse that is now a tasting room. There are picnic tables and a deck looking

out onto a couple of rows of ancient (circa 1895) grapevines brought from Italy. The owner is a fourth-generation winemaker, with his family immigrating to California from Genoa, Italy in 1881. Today the family carries on the trade and currently owns the largest head-trained Zinfandel vineyard in the state. All the wines are made from their estate grapes and are processed at their facility in Sonoma, with their tasting room in Lodi sharing space with the vineyards. Inside the old farmhouse is a cozy gift shop with hardwood floors and a glass-covered oak tasting bar. There is a deli case as well, with meats, cheeses and soft drinks. Their flagship wine is their Old Vine Zinfandel, which complements their collection of Merlot, Petite Sirah, Shiraz, Barbera, Chardonnay, a white blend and their Muscat Canelli.
